House investigative committee briefed on research reactor project

RAMTHA — MP Amjad Majali, head of the Lower House committee investigating energy-related files, and panel members on Wednesday visited the nuclear reactor project for research and training at the Jordan University of Science and Technology.

The committee was accompanied by Khalid Toukan, chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC). The official remarked that the cost of the reactor stood at $159 millions, $83 millions of which was secured through a Korean loan while the rest came from the budget of JAEC.

Project Supervisor Khlaif Abu Salem said the work on the project, which started in 2010, will end on February 17, 2016. He added that by September 3 this year, 92 per cent of the scheme was completed at a cost of $110 million.
