House speaker, US Chargé d'Affaires talk cooperation

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi and US Chargé d'Affaires Rohit Nepal on Tuesday discussed prospects of cooperation between the two countries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Talks during the meeting covered Royal directives to the government to set up a Royal committee to modernise the political system, followed by directives for a comprehensive modernisation in the economic and administrative tracks to meet the aspirations of Jordanians. 

Safadi also highlighted the constitutional amendments approved by the Lower House, notably laws related to political parties and elections, to expand popular participation in decision-making, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

On the Palestinian cause, Safadi emphasised the importance of pushing the peace process forward, stressing that fair and comprehensive peace is fundamental to regional peace and stability. 

He also expressed appreciation of US support for Jordan in various fields. 

The diplomat expressed his country's keenness to boost cooperation with Jordan, emphasising that both nations see eye to eye on several issues, according to Petra. 

He also reviewed prospects for future cooperation, noting that his country values the importance of Jordan’s regional role, expressing appreciation of His Majesty King Abdullah's ongoing efforts to realise global prosperity and peace.
