JAEC chairman elected member of US science academy

AMMAN — Khaled Toukan, chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission has been elected international honourary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Saturday.
Toukan, who is also head of the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Application in the Middle East, was elected as one of the academy’s 213 figures, 177 of whom are Americans and 36 from other countries.
Members include former US president Barack Obama and World Health Organisation director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The academy focuses on higher education, research, human sciences, cultural studies, technology, politics, population and children’s healthcare.
