AMMAN  — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation and the UN’s Joint Learning Initiative recently held a seminar to promote partnerships to implement a global compact on refugees, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.

The seminar, titled “Local Humanitarian Leadership”, brought together 45 representatives of international and national NGOs, local community-based organisations and attendees from the governmental sector.

The discussion revolved around the response of faith-based organisations to emergencies and the possibilities for improving that response, in addition to recommendations to strengthen collaboration across sectors and ways to improve support for refugee projects.

Jean Duff, from the Joint Learning Initiative said in the statement that “faith can play a key role in refugees’ experiences and rebuilding their lives. Stakeholders should help make connections with local faith leaders and facilitate spiritual support across all stages and places if desired by refugees”.

The discussions were co-hosted by the Interagency Task Force for Faith and Development and World Vision International, according to the statement.
