AMMAN — Jordan is the closest to Palestine and its people due to geographical factors, blood bonds, and a shared history and destiny, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said on Saturday.
That is evident in the Kingdom’s “complete solidarity” with the Palestinian people and its issue, he told an Arab League meeting.
Heading Jordan’s delegation to the meetings of the Arab Peace Initiative committee and the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers held in Cairo, Judeh added that His Majesty King Abdullah always stresses that the Palestinian cause is “our core issue” and that Palestinians have the right to establish their independent state on their national soil.
In his remarks at the meeting, also attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Judeh noted that the Palestinian leadership works “hard and with dedication” to achieve this right.
He added that Jordan supports Palestine through all available endeavours to resume serious, committed negotiations with a fixed timetable. The talks, he said, should lead to the emergence of the Palestinian state within the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution, to live side-by-side with neighbours in peace, security and stability.
The minister urged influential world powers to create a suitable environment for the resumption of direct negotiations to achieve the two-state solution.
Judeh added that Arabs have to adopt a unified plan to mount international pressure on Israel to stop its settlement activity and all other unilateral acts targeting East Jerusalem, and Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially Al Haram Al Sharif.
He also reviewed His Majesty’s efforts and government procedures exerted to halt the Israeli assaults on Al Haram Al Sharif.
