Jordan, Dominican Republic discuss ties

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with former president of the Dominican Republic Leonel Antonio Fernández.
During the meeting, the King voiced his appreciation for selecting Jordan to establish a centre for Latin American studies at the University of Jordan, the first of its kind in the Arab region.
Talks focused on bilateral ties and regional developments. Fernández voiced his appreciation for King Abdullah’s efforts to enhance ties between the Kingdom and Latin American states.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour also met with Fernández and discussed ties.
University of Jordan (UJ) students will be introduced to Latin American culture, history and economic and political experiences at a centre for Latin studies, which opened on Tuesday.
His Majesty King Abdullah met with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Thursday in Mexico City and discussed means to enhance economic cooperation, in addition to developments in the Middle East.
The president of South Sudan is making his first official visit to Khartoum since the south broke away to form an independent country earlier this year. Salva Kiir received a red carpet reception Saturday upon arrival in Khartoum, where he was greeted by Sudanese President Omar Bashir.
