AMMAN — Interior Minister Salameh Hammad on Monday met with Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior, Sport and Integration Joachim Herrmann and German Ambassador to Jordan Birgitta Siefker-Eberle over furthering cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism, drugs and crime.

During a meeting with the German officials, Hammad reviewed the latest developments and challenges in the Kingdom, mostly stemming from regional events, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hammad said he valued German support and expressed his appreciation for cooperation between Jordan and Germany’s ministries of interior, highlighting a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation in combating crime and terrorism signed by both countries last year.

Commending the Kingdom’s role in hosting refugees, Herrmann said that he toured Azraq refugee camp, 100km east of Amman, for the second time in four years on Sunday, highlighting improvements made by the Jordanian government to serve the needs of refugees.

He extended an invitation to Hammad to visit Bavaria to have a first-hand look at the German security forces’ efforts to fight crime.

Also on Monday, Public Security Department (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud discussed means of furthering cooperation between both countries’ security departments.

Herrmann praised the advanced preparedness of PSD personnel and expressed keenness to increase cooperation and coordination in these fields.
