AMMAN — The government on Thursday welcomed the Hamas-Israel ceasefire deal, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah said “halting the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and sparing further bloodshed was our goal”, adding that the continuation of military action in the strip would mean more instability and violence in the region.
The first priority for His Majesty King Abdullah was to halt aggression on the coastal enclave, Maaytah said, noting that the Monarch’s directives to enhance the capabilities of the Jordan military field hospital in Gaza was an effective practical step to support Gazans.
Continuing to exert efforts to grant the Palestinian people their political and national rights, foremost of which the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, remains the central issue for Jordan, the spokesperson added.
He stressed that the stalemate in the peace process is the main reason for tensions in the region.
