AMMAN — Member states of the Union for the Mediterranean have unanimously decided to extend the Jordanian presidency of the union for two years as of this September, according to a Foreign Ministry statement released on Saturday.
The decision, which was taken during a two-day meeting of senior officials in Brussels last week, reflects the organisation’s appreciation of Jordan’s efforts during its joint presidency with the European Union and its regional and international role as a peacekeeper, the Foreign Ministry said.
The union comprises 43 countries from the EU and the Mediterranean basin.
