AMMAN — Jordanians took to social media platforms to call for donations to help the victims of a massive earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday morning.

Citizens are urged to donate money to charities, NGOs and professional organisations that are helping the victims of the quake.

On social media posts, activists and charities said that they need everyone’s involvement, either financially or through in-kind help.

Bassema Al Bayary, a Jordanian citizen, said: “I’m very sad of what happened for Turkish and Syrian people after the earthquake.”

“All Arab countries should help people in Turkey and Syria with all types of aid, especially as Syria does not have the equipment in abundance like Turkey,” she added.

Another citizen Faisal Aboghaida pointed to the tough weather conditions hampering rescue efforts.

Media reports say rescue workers in both countries are struggling with extreme weather conditions as many are still believed to be buried in the rubble.

“Any help we will provide will be grateful; either we gave them money or even blankets,” Faisal added.
