AMMAN — Jordan needs international support to continue hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said Tuesday.

At a meeting with Socialist International President George A. Papandreou, Judeh highlighted the pressure that the refugee crisis places on Jordan’s economy, infrastructure and services.

He also reaffirmed Jordan’s support for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Discussions covered the Middle East peace process and the need to establish an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 border.

Papandreou, also the former prime minister of Greece, commended Jordan’s role in dealing with regional issues and working towards peace and stability.

Also Tuesday, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh met with the Greek official and discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, especially the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis.
