AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Monday visited the Public Security Department (PSD), a Royal Court statement said.

During the visit, His Majesty met PSD Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Faqih and discussed issues related to police work.

The King expressed his pride in the members of security and appreciation of their role in preserving the security of people and the stability of the Kingdom.

His Majesty stressed that the relationship between police and residents has to be based on respect, protecting people’s dignity and the rule of law.

As for the recent incident between security personnel and a citizen, when detectives attacked a university instructor brutally and were caught on camera, the King said it was an isolated act that does not represent the entire security personnel, vowing that the assailants will be held accountable.

His Majesty stressed that protecting national achievements is everybody’s job and violating them is not acceptable regardless of any justification or motive.

He also stressed that security bodies have to become role models in respecting the law.

The Monarch highlighted the importance of training security personnel to improve their performance.

Faqih briefed the King on the latest developments in the field of security, plans and measures to improve police services, in addition to their efforts in combating crimes.

The King also viewed a number of police activities conducted by various PSD
divisions.

I LOVE IT WHEN MY INLAWS RESPOND WITH THEIR OWN OPINIONS SINCE THEY ARE IN THE EYES OF THE STORM. MAZ. MAY HAVE A POINT AND I CAN ALSO REMIND HIM OR HER THAT 30 YEARS AGO IS NOT TODAY WITH ALL THE CONFOUNDING ISSUES AND VARIABLES. IN FACT, IF ONE CONTROLS FOR WARS AFTER WARS WITH SPIN OVER OF TERRORS ASSOCIATED WITH THEM, MY FRIEND CAN SEE THAT COMPARING APPLES WITH ORANGES WILL LEAD TO STATISTICAL ERRORS. 30 YEARS AGO, IRAQ WAS NOT IN CHAOS, SYRIA WAS STABLE, EGYPT WAS ONE OF THE GIANTS OF AFRICA, THERE WAS SOME HOPE FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACE PLANS, GUNS AND BULLETS WERE WELL CONTROLLED AND THERE WAS SOME FORM OF ABSOLUTE PEACE AMONG THE ARAB WORLD. FINALLY, I WANT MY FRIEND MAZ. TO NOTE THAT YOU CAN NOT FLY ON ANY AIR PLANE TODAY WITHOUT BEING STRIPPED NACKED TO THE POINT THAT IF ONE START A NEW AIRLINE TODAY CALLED " NUDE " AIR WHERE ALL PASSENGERS AND CREW ARE ALL NAKED, IT WILL BE A BIG ECONOMIC HIT AND WHY IS THIS?. PSD JUST LIKE ANY OTHER AGENCY IS NOT PURELY STERILE BUT STATISTICALLY DOING WELL AFTER CONTROLLING FOR ALL THE CONFOUNDING VARIABLES. SURELY, I AM NOT DEFENDING ANY WRONG DOING AS MY RECORD MAY SHOW IN THE PAST INCLUDING ANY GOVERNMENT BUT WHAT IF YOU LIVE IN MY COUNTRY WHERE PEOPLE ARE BEING SHOT DEAD IN A COLD BLOOD ON ROUTINE BASIS?. WE HAVE TO COMRARE ANY DATA USING GOOD STATISTICAL ANALYSIS AND NOT JUST BY POINT ESTIMATE AND THIS CASE IS A POINT ESTIMATE AND WE ALL HOPE THAT IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Dr Samuel, you must be kidding. Maybe what you're saying was true 30 years ago particularly with regards to PSD. Today we have PSD officers accepting bribes to take various forms of action on behalf of the people bankrolling them, in essence behaving as mercenaries. Police corruption exists in both developed and developing countries all over the world and Jordan is no exception. The general public need a better system to register complaints of police harassment and brutality and the PSD needs to hold violators accountable and impose very harsh sentences. It won't stop corruption completely but it will certainly reduce it

KNOWING THE JORDANIAN POLICE AND THEIR METHOD OF POLICING IT HAS NEVER BEEN THIS WAY SO THIS IS DEFINITLY AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THIS SHOULD ONLY BE USED FOR TRAINING RATHER THAN PUNITIVE MEASURE BECAUSE SOME FORM OF MISCALCULATION AND ERROR MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT. IF THERE IS ANY GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY IN JORDAN THAT IS EXCELLENT, PEOPLE OREINTED AND RESPECT FOR THE LAWS AND RULES, IT IS THE JORDANIAN POLICE AND THE MILITARY AND I HAVE NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR THEM. ITS UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED AND I HOPE THAT THE STUDENT WILL FORGIVE AND FORGET. THE PICTURE ABOVE SPEAKS MORE THAN WORDS AS OUR LEADER WAS WONDERING WHAT COULD HAVE LED TO THIS. THIS IS THE QUALITY OF A GOOD AND NOBLE LEADER.
