King attends Gendarmerie drill

His Majesty briefed by department’s chief on latest upgrades

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday attended a drill by gendarmerie forces.

His Majesty also discussed security-related issues with Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh, the department's director, a Royal Court statement said. 

Hawatmeh briefed His Majesty on plans and measures taken to boost the department's capabilities. 

The drill was implemented by several gendarmerie units, which demonstrated counterterrorism techniques and carried out mock raids. 

His Majesty also observed a performance by a high-level gendarmerie unit which was prepared and trained under Royal instructions using state-of-the-art gear, as well as quick response strategies to various security events and situations. 

The training was implemented in accordance with the highest security standards to boost the department’s fighting capabilities, the statement said. 

The King commended the advanced level of the Gendarmerie Department, especially in the arming and training areas, and voiced his trust and pride in its units. 

 

The Gendarmerie Department was established under a 2008 law, which mandates the force to maintain domestic security and provide support to other security agencies when needed.
