King discusses ties, region with US senator

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday received US Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), who is currently visiting the country.
During the meeting, the King and the US lawmaker reviewed regional developments, including Middle East peace efforts and the Syrian crisis.
The King stressed the importance of the US role in backing peace efforts to arrive at a just and viable solution to the Palestinian issue, on the basis of the two-state solution.
Talks also covered means to boost bilateral cooperation. Also on Tuesday, Senate President Taher Masri met with Paul.
During a meeting attended by US Ambassador to Jordan Stewart Jones, discussions focused on the country’s reform drive, parliamentary cooperation and current regional developments.
His Majesty King Abdullah will visit Moscow on Tuesday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on bilateral relations and regional issues, a Royal Court statement said.
His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday warned that the continuing Syrian crisis might leave a void that extremist groups would exploit to achieve their own agendas.
Washington is observing the situation in Iraq carefully and is in favour of a political solution for the unrest there, according to US ambassador to Jordan Stuart Jones, who is moving to Iraq soon.
