The visit was the first by an Arab head of state to Cairo after the ousting of president Mohamed Morsi.
During the meeting, held at Al Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, King Abdullah and Mansour agreed to boost efforts aimed at developing bilateral economic and political ties in order to serve the interests of the two countries, according to a Royal Court statement.
They called for holding joint Jordanian-Egyptian higher committee meetings as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the King said he is committed to supporting the Egyptian people’s choices and helping the country overcome challenges it is facing, stressing the need for Egyptian political powers to protect the national cohesion to preserve Egypt’s leading role in the region.
Discussions also covered peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis according to the two-state solution. In his Cairo talks, King Abdullah cited Jordan’s efforts to ensure the resumption of serious talks that address the final status issues arriving at the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on its national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The two sides underscored the importance of the “positive” step announced by US Secretary of State John Kerry regarding the launch of peace negotiations soon.
