AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Industry on Monday said that local energy efficient electric appliances industry is facing “unjust” competition from imported goods that “threaten its existence”.
The chamber, in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that there has been a significant increase in electrical appliance imports for low prices, adding that local factories pay customs fees and taxes while imported products are exempted.
The chamber noted that getting approvals to start production and high energy costs are among the greatest challenges facing local industries, adding that a comprehensive strategy has to be developed in the energy sector in cooperation with the industrial sector.
