AMMAN — The works of master Spanish artists — from Francisco Goya to Pablo Picasso — will be available for the perusal of the Jordanian public as of Monday and until June 9 at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts.

The 53 artworks, including nine by romantic painter Goya (1746-1828), are from the art collections of the Spanish embassy, Instituto Cervantes, the gallery, and several private collectors in Jordan, according to the gallery’s director general, Khalid Khrais.

“Through this exhibition, we are bringing out the Spanish art present in Jordan and showing it to Jordanians and Spaniards residing in Jordan,” Khrais told reporters on Sunday, noting that the idea for the event came up during a conversation he had with Spanish Ambassador Santiago Cabanas Ansorena.

He thanked the embassy for its cooperation, adding that the ambassador is scheduled to inaugurate the exhibition at 7pm on Monday.

The exhibition, titled “Spanish Art in Jordan”, showcases various visual styles, Khrais said, such as oil and acrylic painting, etching and printing, and the works span art trends prevalent in Spain in the 20th and 21st centuries, — such as surrealism and expressionism.

In addition to Goya and Picasso, the event will feature work by Catalan artist Joan Miró and surrealist Salvador Dali, in addition to pieces by various contemporary Spanish artists.
