AMMAN — The Lower House’s Labour and Social Development Committee on Wednesday said it brokered a solution to end the Labour Ministry employees’ strike, which started Sunday.

Labour Minister Nidal Katamine, who attended the meeting, approved the agreement ending the strike, under which the ministry will cancel a decision to exclude official holidays from employees’ financial incentives.

However, the ministry will form a committee that includes representatives of the employees to consider a new mechanism for disbursing allowances fairly based on allocated money.

The ministry pays allowances to its employees in line with Article 12 of the Labour Law, which allows the deduction of 5 per cent of the extra money the ministry receives for the Employment, Technical and Vocational Education Training Fund.

Commending the House’s role in resolving labour disputes, Katamine said the ministry awards its distinguished employees financial incentives, noting that the Cabinet recently approved financial rewards for 200 ministry employees, especially labour inspectors, for their exceptional efforts.

Deputy Mousa Khalaileh, who chaired the meeting, urged the striking employees to return to work immediately, stressing that the Lower House will ensure that the agreement is implemented and follow up on the findings of the committee.
