AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a June Criminal Court ruling sentencing a man to nine years in prison after convicting him of molesting a child in an Amman suburb on July 2016.

The court declared the defendant guilty of molesting the boy, who was 14 at the time of the incident, on July 18, and handed him an increased sentence because the victim was under the age of 15.

Court papers said the defendant lured the victim to a deserted area after threatening him with a paper cutter where he pinned him down to the ground after forcing him to undress.

“The defendant molested the victim and while leaving the secluded area, the two were confronted with a police force who came looking for the child,” the court documents added.

The higher court ruled that the Criminal Court’s proceedings were accurate and correct and the defendant received the appropriate punishment.

The Cassation Court comprised judges Mohammad Ibrahim, Naji Zoubi, Yassin Abdullat, Mohammad Tarawneh and Daoud Tubelih.
