AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a January 2017 Criminal Court ruling sentencing a man to three months in prison after convicting him of sending indecent photos of his wife to his friend’s mobile.

The tribunal declared the defendant guilty of violating the Telecommunication Law when he decided to send photos of his wife while she was taking a shower to his friend’s mobile and handed him the maximum punishment.

The court also fined the husband JD100 and confiscated the mobile phone.

The defendant was originally charged with molestation “because he sent nude photos of his wife”, but the court ruled that his actions violated the Telecommunication Law only.

Court documents indicated that the defendant asked for his friend’s permission to send him photos of his wife, mother and sister “because he had no space in his device”.

“The defendant obtained his friend’s promise to delete the photos, especially that there were photos of his wife in indecent circumstances,” court document maintained.

However, the matter was exposed and a complaint was filed against the defendant by the public prosecutor.

The higher court ruled that the Criminal Court’s ruling was accurate and the defendant received the appropriate punishment.
