Media watchdog to publish violations online

AMMAN — The Defenders of Media Freedom in the Arab World Network, Sanad, on Tuesday launched an online campaign to publish violations committed against media personnel and raise journalists’ awareness on ways to report them.
In a statement, the Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists, which runs Sanad, noted that the campaign aims at holding those who violate reporters’ rights liable and documenting such incidents.

In its January report on violations against media personnel in the region, Defenders of Media Freedom in the Arab World, Sanad, said there were 85 violations and attacks against 128 media personnel and 10 media institutions, according to a statement released by the Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists.
Press freedom declined significantly in 2013 in the Arab world, according to a study by the Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists’ Network For Media Freedom Defenders in the Arab World (SANAD).
