AMMAN — Around 17,700 families have received cash support as a compensation for the lifted fuel subsidies by 3:00pm on Monday.

The number of individuals who received the JD2.9 million support is around 80,000.

Finance Ministry Secretary General Omar Zu’bi said that the number of families who filed an online application since the beginning of the process late last week, to receive the support, reached 222,000, more than one million Jordanians.

The government scrapped fuel subsidies last week to save JD800 million a year, of which around JD300 million will be disbursed as financial compensations to households whose yearly income is less than JD10,000.

He noted that military and civilian public sector employees, retired army personnel, social security retirees and people who benefit from the National Aid Fund will receive the support through the entity that pays their salaries, and they do not need to file an application.

Nader Thneibat, secretary general of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, said on Monday that citizens across the Kingdom can apply online to get the cash at the country’s 190 Knowledge Stations.

“Citizens eligible for the cash payments can report to these Knowledge Stations, which are distributed across the country and located even in remote areas, as of today [Monday] to apply for cash payments on the website allocated for this purpose,” he told The Jordan Times.
