AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to form a ministerial committee to prepare a comprehensive study of the Civil Retirement Law as directed by His Majesty King Abdullah.
The study will pave the way for a new law that regulates every detail relevant to the pensions of members of the executive, legislative and judicial government branches.
Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah said the committee will initiate an action plan to ensure the completion of the project by the end of January, to be reviewed by the new Parliament.
The Cabinet also approved the purchase of sanitation machinery by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday issued a Royal Decree rejecting a Parliament decision to annul the temporary Civil Retirement Law No. 10, for the year 2010, which cancelled pensions for lawmakers, a Royal Court statement said.
Parliament on Thursday decided to grant its members lifetime pensions equal to that of ministers, under the draft civil retirement law, which His Majesty King Abdullah rejected in 2012.
Jordan celebrates the 14th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah’s coronation on Sunday.
