AMMAN — Head of the Jordanian-European Parliamentary Friendship Committee MP Khaled Bakar on Thursday commended the EU’s “courageous” rejection of the US administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital during a meeting with the EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea M. Fontana, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, Fontana said EU member states will not move their embassies to Jerusalem, stressing that the bloc recognises the right of return of Palestinian refugees.
Members of the committee called for enhancing the political role of the EU in the Mideast peace process. For his part, Fontana said that the EU seeks to play a more effective political role, its strategy based on consultation and dialogue and not confrontation, Petra said.
