AMMAN — Airport International Group CEO Kjeld Binger on Wednesday said the new Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) terminal will be fully operational on March 20-21.
At a press conference, Binger said the QAIA expansion project will increase the airport’s capacity from 3.5 million passengers annually to 7 million once fully operational.
He also expected the annual capacity to increase to between 9 and 12 million passengers after the completion of the second phase.
Airport International Group (AIG), the Jordanian consortium responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of the airport, announced on Sunday in a press release that the annual traffic of passengers travelling through Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) exceeded six million passengers for the first time in the airport’s history.
Transport Minister Alaa Batayneh on Wednesday checked on the progress of work at the new Queen Alia International Airport terminal, being implemented at a cost of $750 million.
Three Royal Jordanian (RJ) flights are scheduled to take off from the new Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) terminal as of March 3, a statement from QAIA's operators, the Airport International Group (AIG), said on Wednesday.
