AMMAN — Petra National Trust (PNT) has announced a collaboration with the World Monuments Fund dedicated to building a new heritage conservation training programme for Syrian refugees in Jordan, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

With a grant from the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund, this project will enable Petra National Trust to expand cultural heritage initiatives throughout Jordan and the greater region, according to the statement.

The award is given from the British Council and the United Kingdom’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s £30 million fund, “to help to create sustainable opportunities for economic and social development through building capacity to foster, safeguard and promote cultural heritage affected by conflict outside of the United Kingdom”.

PNT will lead the education outreach component of the project focused on children and youth from schools in Mafraq, 80km northeast of Amman. Six one-day workshops for primary-middle school (7-15 years) will be held and approximately 120-150 students will undergo the training, according to the statement.
