Planning Ministry begins series of consultative meetings with private sector on draft investment law

AMMAN — Commissioned by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh on Tuesday launched a series of consultative meetings with the private sector to review the government’s draft law regulating investment. 

The meetings, the first of which was held Monday, featured Ministers of Finance, Industry, Trade and Supply, Investment and State Legal Affairs, and representatives of the Jordan Chambers of Industry and Commerce, according to a Planning Ministry statement.

The meetings aim to identify the most important issues of interest to industrialists and traders within the framework of the draft law and discuss all relevant observations and suggestions. 

The law regulating the investment environment tops the government’s economic priorities programme (2021-2023), which seeks to develop and enhance the investment environment in the Kingdom, and stimulate both local and foreign investments.

To achieve the draft law’s goals, investment procedures will be automated and simplified, production and business costs will be reduced in a way that contributes to stimulating economic growth and creating job opportunities.

The draft law will be referred to parliament in the next extraordinary session on July 20.
