AMMAN — Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury on Tuesday said his ministry in 2016 held 580 training programmes as part of the technical cooperation programme with donor parties, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking at the opening of the programme “Improving training departments and career planning”, Fakhoury said that 2016 was marked by an increase in workshops, especially in the field of technical cooperation, to build the ministry’s capacities in cooperation with other government agencies.

The courses were provided in coordination with donors such as China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Netherlands, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Sweden, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the minister said.

The ministry nominated 763 employees, who meet the requirements to participate in the workshops and 437 of them were accepted, Fakhoury noted.

The workshops focused on various fields, including water, energy, the environment, health, agriculture, education, economy, investment, trade, industry and ICT.

Last year 187 employees from various Jordanian institutions and ministries also participated in 16 training programmes held abroad on various topics, including renewable energy, health strategies and policies, social affairs, employment policies and food security.

The minister highlighted the importance of improving the public sector and commended the role of the Arab Planning Institute (API) in supporting the efforts of Arab countries in honing the skills of human resources.

Fakhoury also commended the support provided by API’s Kuwait branch to Jordan in order to build the capacities of its human resources.
