AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Wednesday met with directors and programme presenters of satellite channels licensed by the Audiovisual Commission.
During the meeting, Ensour stressed the importance of the media in shaping public opinion on national issues. He also called on media outlets to help raise awareness of the dangers of vote buying, adding that the government will help the Independent Elections Commission in its battle against “political money”.
The premier also reiterated that the polls will be conducted with complete fairness and transparency, calling on Jordanians not to help the corrupt make it to parliament.
Audiovisual Commission Director General Amjad Qadi and Maen Anaswah, an employee at the commission, testified before the Amman Criminal Court on Wednesday in the Josat satellite channel case.
More than 200 communications and media experts from Jordan and the region convened at the Dead Sea on Wednesday to participate in the Amandla Communications Forum, a training and knowledge-sharing event that seeks to acquaint participants with the latest trends in brand strategies, design, story telling, public diplomacy, press and media and online strategies.
Media experts said on Saturday that the role of the new Media Sector Regulatory Commission has to be upgraded to involve development of the sector to keep pace with latest technologies rather than remain confined to regulatory affairs.
