AMMAN — Statistical information is a national power that should be utilised in a modern, scientific way, HRH Prince Hassan, chairman of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), said Friday.

At a meeting at the Department of Statistics (DoS) with institutions concerned with developing and updating statistical data, Prince Hassan said information is a viable means through which national priorities and needs can be identified.

He also referred to the importance of DoS studies as a resource for decision makers when drawing up policies, stressing the need for institutions such as the Change Engines Study Centre at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and DoS to cooperate, especially since the centre has the resources to conduct qualitative studies.

Speaking at the meeting, HRH Princess Sumaya also stressed the importance of cooperation between DoS and RSS to improve data quality, commending the department’s efforts in easing access to information and providing decision makers with key data.

She referred to the role the centre can play in reaching out to civil society organisations, noting that it has communicated with societies in 33 locations across Jordan.

The princess also stressed the importance of combining efforts to ensure the Kingdom’s success in hosting the 2017 scientific research forum.

Moreover, she called for benefiting from the RSS’ and Princess Sumaya University for Technology’s expertise.
