Prince Hassan checks on progress in Hijaz Railway Museum

AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan on Thursday paid a visit to the Jordan Hijaz Railway Corporation (JHRC) to check on the progress in building the JHRC Museum, which is being implemented in cooperation with Turkey.

JHRC Director Salah Lozi gave a presentation on the project, its architectural design and the possessions that will be on display, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Prince Hassan commended the progress made, pointing out the importance of implementing the project while maintaining its historic identity.

He stressed on the necessity of accurately documenting the story of the Jordan Hijaz Railway, which has played a large role in supporting the national economy, in addition to integrating the history of the railway into educational curricula.

The prince shed light on the importance of preserving the railway so that it may serve future generations, according to the statement.

With regards to the implementation of the project, Prince Hassan underlined the importance of flexibility of execution, and the necessity of working with various institutions and universities to benefit from their expertise.

Lozi outlined the challenges that face the operation of the railway, which include the closing of borders with neighbouring countries, highlighting the importance of consolidating the railway as a mode of transport as well as a tourist attraction.

The construction of the museum is being funded by the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency and will be built at a cost of around JD3.5 million, over 3,000sq.m. of land.
