AMMAN — HRH Princess Haya on Wednesday announced the launch of an initiative to eliminate hunger on the occasion of the late King Hussein’s birthday, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.
Tkiyet Abu Abdullah will complement the efforts of Tkiyet Um Ali in combating poverty by providing employment and training programmes directly targeting the families that Tkiyet Um Ali reaches.
More than 26,000 individuals benefit each month from Tkiyet Um Ali, a charity launched in 2006 by Princess Haya in memory of her mother, the late Queen Alia.
Tkiyet Um Ali will launch a campaign during the holy month of Ramadan, to distribute more than a quarter-of-a-million iftar meals to needy families across Jordan.
Tkiyet Um Ali on Sunday honoured 165 of its main donors and supporters who help put food on the tables of underprivileged families across the Kingdom.
HRH Princess Haya received the UN World Food Programme’s (WFP) 2015 Hunger Hero Award at the World Leaders Dinner on Thursday at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
