Princess Sumaya, PM meet with UN official

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Wednesday met with UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Executive Director Joan Clos and an accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, attended by Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi, talks focussed on means to enhance cooperation between Jordan and UN-HABITAT in sustainable urban development.
Clos thanked Jordan for hosting the fourth Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development, which concluded in Amman on Tuesday.
Also on Wednesday, HRH Princess Sumaya, president of the Royal Scientific Society, met with Clos and discussed means to enhance cooperation between the RSS and the programme.
The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has established an Urban Observatory to oversee urban development within the capital and help plan its future shape, GAM Press Centre Director Taha Abu Redin said on Thursday.
Housing developers are considering a proposal by the authorities and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to build apartments for lower middle income Jordanians.
HRH Princess Sumaya, chairperson of the board of trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, on Wednesday met with PSUT board and faculty members and was briefed on the university’s plans and challenges.
