AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Rania on Monday inaugurated the “Hussein Madi in Amman” exhibition at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts (JNGFA).

The exhibition showcases 115 artworks donated to the permanent collection of the gallery by the world-renowned artist, according to a statement from Her Majesty’s office.

In attendance were also HRH Princess Wijdan Bint Fawaz, president of the Royal Society of Fine Arts, Their Royal Highnesses Princess GhidaTalal and Princess Rajwa Bint Ali, Lebanese artist Hussein Madi, and Khalid Khreis, director general of the JNGFA and the board of trustees.

Accompanied by Princess Wijdan, Queen Rania toured the art exhibition and was briefed about the artworks by the artist himself.

The collection includes paintings, graphic prints and sculptures.

Princess Wijdan thanked Madi for the donation.

“I have no words that can describe our gratitude... I am confident that Madi will continue to enrich contemporary Arab art with his work, and that his generosity will set an example for other artists,” she said.

Born in Lebanon in 1938, Madi moved to Italy after finishing his studies in Lebanon and lived there for 22 years, the statement said.

While in Italy, he mastered the crafts of painting, sculpture and print making, as well as the techniques of fresco, mosaic and graphic art at the Accademia di Belle Arti and the Accademia San Giacomo in Rome.

Since 1965, Madi has held over 60 solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous international exhibitions and biennales around the world.

The JNGFA will be home to Madi’s exhibition until July 30, according to the statement.
