AMMAN — With the fasting month of Ramadan around the corner, Her Majesty Queen Rania on Tuesday joined young volunteers as they prepared for their Ramadan activities at Ras Al Ain Gallery and Hangar.

Gearing up for the fasting month, which is — apart from abstinence — a time for compassion and helping out those who are less fortunate, Queen Rania joined members of the Jordan Volunteers group, who were preparing food packages to be distributed to underprivileged families throughout Ramadan.

Islam Bino, director of the Ras Al Ain Gallery and Hangar, Motasem Masalmeh, president of Jordan Volunteers, and Mohammad Jaber, founder of Jordan Volunteers, were also present, according to a statement from the Queen's office.

The volunteers explained to Her Majesty how they identify families that need help and walked her through the package preparation process.

Queen Rania then headed to a meeting with another group of young volunteers representing different voluntary groups active in Jordan.

She expressed her deep pride in the work they do to help out their communities, noting that individuals’ efforts might seem trivial, but when they collaborate and build partnerships among each other it can have a significant impact.

“It’s not just about the positive effect you bring about,” the Queen told the young people, “but also the high level of commitment that you have shown not only in times of crisis, but throughout the whole year.”

Masalmeh thanked the Queen for her continuous support for young volunteers in the country, the statement said.

Jordan Volunteers was established in 2009 as a nonprofit company, Takaful, under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

It focuses on spreading the culture of voluntary work in society and directing the energy of young people towards helping others through offering time and effort rather than money.

Since its establishment, Jordan Volunteers has organised more than 535 events with the participation of 31,000 volunteers and launched 12 different initiatives.
