Amman — The reaction to the Islamic State (IS) terror group must be quick, His Majesty King Abdullah has said.
In the second part of a wide-ranging interview with CBS’ Scott Pelley, aired Monday evening, the King said world countries “have not been quick. I'm very, very pleased that President Obama has been thinking this through, I think in a very sensible manner”.
His Majesty noted that the problem with IS is that it is “cross-bordered. It's in Syria and Iraq. So it's been a bit difficult… solving the Iraq part of the puzzle, but then going into eastern Syria”.
The King said that no one expects foreign boots in the war zone, adding that standing up to extremist elements on the ground should be done by Iraqis in Iraq and Syria’s moderate opposition in Syria.
However, “as we deal with Syria and Iraq, let’s not forget Libya, let’s not forget Yemen, let’s not forget the Horn of Africa, Nigeria. This is truly a global fight against terror”, the King said, in reference to terror threats in these countries.
