Restaurant shut down in Amman due to public decency violation

AMMAN — Interior Minister Samir Mubaidin on Sunday ordered the detention of organisers of an event for the inclusion of activities not listed in the official request they submitted to Amman governor.

The ministry said that the Seven Hills Restaurant [on the airport road] had submitted an official request to host a family-oriented festival including no alcoholic drinks, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Having examined the issue following photos and videos shared on social media, the ministry said that the event included a number of activities that were harmful to public decency, Petra said.

Mubaidin instructed  the governor of Amman to detain the organisers of the event as well as the restaurant owner and impose high bail on them. 

Later on Sunday, the Tourism Ministry closed the restaurant based on what was circulated on social media outlets, Petra reported.

The case will be deliberated by the tourism committee during its weekly meeting where deterrent measures will be considered, including terminating licences and excluding commercial registration, according to Petra.
