AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday telephoned his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to means to develop them at various levels, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.

During the phone call, in which Safadi congratulated Kono on assuming his post, both ministers expressed keenness to develop cooperation and discussed regional issues, Petra said. Kono, who was member of the Japan-Jordan friendship committee in the Japanese parliament, praised the Kingdom’s role in enhancing the security and stability in the region.

Kono was appointed as foreign minister on August 3, in a reshuffle of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government, Petra noted.
