Safadi meets Bahraini, Kuwaiti, Australian officials in Washington

AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday met with his Bahraini counterpart Sheikh Khaled Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa in Washington, to discuss means to enhance bilateral relations.

The two ministers met on the sidelines of a ministerial gathering of member countries of the coalition against Daesh, and discussed the latest regional developments with a focus on the Palestinian and Syrian issues, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.

Safadi and Sheikh Khaled stressed the importance of sustaining Jordanian-Bahraini coordination on efforts to face regional challenges, in order to ensure the realisation of security and stability.

They also reviewed the Kingdom’s preparations to host the Arab summit later in the month, whose preparatory meetings commenced in Amman on Thursday.

Also on Wednesday, Safadi met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah to discuss the importance of developing cooperation between both countries.

Both ministers expressed their aspiration for the joint Jordanian-Kuwaiti higher committee meeting, to be held in Amman later this year. It will provide a platform for discussing procedures aimed at increasing cooperation, especially in the economic, commercial and investment fields, Petra reported.

Safadi and Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop also discussed ways to develop relations between Amman and Canberra, and went over the latest regional developments. 

Both ministers reviewed efforts developed to reach a solution for the Syrian crisis, developments on the war against terrorism, in addition to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Safadi reiterated Jordan’s support to the two-state solution as a condition to achieve regional security and stability.
