Second Belgian Gastronomic Day to be held on Friday

AMMAN — The embassy of Belgium is organising the second edition of the Belgian Gastronomic Day this Friday. 

The event, open to the public for free, includes stands of Belgian delicacies such as pralines, chocolates, biscuits, cookies, breads, cheeses, waffles and more, according to a statement by the embassy.

A set menu of mussels and fries will be also served at the event, to be held at Romero Restaurant between noon and 8pm, the statement said, adding that the open day “has the objective of introducing Belgian products to the Jordanian public”. 

The second edition of the day comes following last year’s “remarkable success” by attracting more than 900 people. “Belgium is at a cultural crossroads of Europe. We combine the refinement of the Southern traditions with the coziness of the Northern ones. This is what you find in Belgian cuisine and food culture,”  Belgian Ambassador Hendrik Van de Velde said, adding that Belgian food “ was pretty unknown outside Europe until 15 years ago. Since then, our culinary culture has become trendy in most world cities from New York to Tokyo and Buenos Aires to Dubai”.

“It’s not just waffles, chocolates, or fries. Belgium has the highest density of starred chefs with high-end culinary creation. However, across the board, the average Belgian restaurant and café is always rewarding, as any business traveller, official or tourist going to Brussels and beyond will have experienced,” he concluded.
