Security measures in place ahead of holiday celebrations

AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) on Monday said it would take intensive security measures during celebrations of Christmas and the new year.
In a statement, the PSD said police personnel and patrols will be deployed in areas where celebrations are taking place.
The PSD also called on citizens not to leave their homes for long hours and not to leave behind valuable objects.
In case of emergency, citizens can dial 191, 190, 194 and 911, the PSD said.
The Public Security Department (PSD) will take various measures during Eid Al Fitr to enhance security in the Kingdom, protect citizens and their properties and ensure smooth flow of traffic
Sunday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, when Muslims break their fast, Chief Islamic Justice Ahmad Hilayel announced on Saturday.
His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday sent cables to Cuban President Raul Castro and Haitian President Rene Preval congratulating them on the occasion of their countries’ national days. Also yesterday, the King sent a cable to Sudanese President Omar Bashir congratulating him on his country’s independence day.
