Sit-in held in solidarity with prisoners in Israeli jails

AMMAN — Activists, parents and family members of Jordanian and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails gathered in front of the UN headquarters on Thursday, in an expression of solidarity with the detainees.
Participants, including NGO representatives, called on the UN to intervene and end the maltreatment of prisoners in Israeli jails. Several sit-ins will be organised in front of the headquarters of human rights’ agencies and the Israeli embassy in Amman to protest against Israel’s mistreatment of Jordanian and Palestinian prisoners, according to Mohammad Hreibat, one of the protest’s organisers.
The Jordanian youth campaign to support prisoners organised a sit-in on Sunday near the Kalouti Mosque in the Rabiah neighbourhood to express solidarity with Jordanians imprisoned in Israel.
Members of the Jordanian Democratic Popular Unity Party and family members of Jordanian and Palestinian prisoners in Israel staged a sit-in on Thursday in front of the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation, demanding their release.
Jordanian prisoner in Israel Abdullah Barghouthi is reported to be in critical condition after 66 days of being on a hunger strike, an activist said on Saturday.
