AMMAN — A Jordanian soldier suffered superficial wounds on Wednesday in a shooting from the Syrian side against a patrol, according to a Jordan Armed Forces statement.
The border guards shot back, killing one assailant and injuring two others, while the injured army man was treated on spot, said the source.
Border guard units have in the past months engaged gunmen who tried to cross the border.
So far, no injuries were reported on the Jordanian side, while infiltrators have been injured or arrested.
The air force in July shot down an unidentified drone near the northeastern border with Syria, with officials reasserting that any violation of the Kingdom's border would be dealt with firmly and forcefully and the armed forces will not allow any tampering with the security of the country.
