AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Saturday underlined the importance of achieving the objectives of the general pardon law, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Tarawneh made his remarks in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Rajai Muasher, Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni, the Lower House's Legal Committee President Abdul Munim Odat and Legislation and Opinion Bureau President Nofan Ajarmeh.

Tarawneh said that the issues of gharimat (indebted women) and students and farmers’ loans require government decisions.

He added that an agreement was reached, under which the government would pay the interest on the farmers’ loans, provided that the amount of the original debt was JD10,000 or less. The government will also pay for women whose debts are JD2,000 or less, as well as offer a grace period of five years for student loans.
