Taxi driver arrested for robbing passengers

AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel on Tuesday detained a taxi driver who used his vehicle to carry out a string of robberies.

The man confessed to the charges and implicated three other women in the crimes.

According to the suspect, his accomplices sat on either side of passengers and stole their possessions while they rode in the taxi.

The number of passengers who fell prey to the scheme has not yet been calculated, according to a statement released by the Public Security Department (PSD) on Tuesday.

The department noted that the case so far has been built on statements from those who came forward after realising they had been robbed.

The PSD urged citizens — women in particular — to take precautions when carrying personal possessions in public places and report any suspected incidents immediately to the police.
