AMMAN — A 19-year-old was charged with manslaughter on Saturday in connection with the killing of a teenager in Ain Al Basha on Friday, official sources said.
The suspect reportedly confessed to stabbing the 18-year-old following a scuffle, a senior official source told The Jordan Times.
The suspect said he was walking on the street at night when he was “approached by the victim, who threatened him with a paper cutter and attempted to rob him”, the source said.
The suspect claimed that he attempted to resist the robbery and “the victim slashed him in the arm, so he stabbed him with a switchblade in self defence,” the source added.
The victim fell to the ground and “the suspect took his mobile and fled,” according to the source, who noted that police arrested him shortly after the incident.
A second source told The Jordan Times that the victim received a single stab wound to the heart that killed him instantly.
Criminal Court Prosecutor Omar Hiyari issued orders for the suspect to be detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigation into the incident.
