Temperatures forecast at 6-7°C above annual average on Wednesday

AMMAN — A hot and dry air mass Jordan-bound from Africa is forecast as of Wednesday, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) announced on Sunday.

Temperatures in Amman on Wednesday are expected to reach 35°C, pushing temperatures 6 to 7°C above their annual average during this time of the year.

The Jordan Valley and Aqaba will see temperatures ranging from 41°C to 43°C, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

JMD Director General Hussein Momani said that a further rise in temperatures is expected on Friday as the hot air mass peaks.

Mercury levels in the capital are expected to stand at 38°C, while temperatures in Aqaba and the Jordan Valley will range between 44-45°C, he said.

The impact of the hot air mass would gradually ease off from Saturday, Momani added.

Temperatures on Monday are forecast to range between a high of 30ºC and a low of 20ºC in Amman and a high of 39ºC and low of 26ºC in Aqaba.

The JMD warned people against direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours from noon to 3pm, calling on the public to stay up-to-date with weather forecasts by checking updates on www.jmd.gov.jo, through the JMD’s Facebook page or its app “JMDWEATHER”.
