AMMAN — UNESCO on Wednesday launched the EU-funded “Support to Media in Jordan” project with the aim of turning the local media into a platform for democratic dialogue and as a crucial instrument for transparency and accountability, a joint statement from organisers said.
The three-year project is part of a broader EU initiative to support civil society and media and will be implemented by the UNESCO Amman office “in close coordination with the main state and non-state media institutions in Jordan”.
The project will be implemented “in close collaboration with the media” over two phases, with the first one focusing on research and analysis of the contemporary media landscape to shape the structure and implementation of activities in the second phase.
“Primary beneficiaries of the project are those working in the media sector, but Jordanian society as a whole will also benefit, as it relies on the media as a major source of information,” the statement said.
