AMMAN — An autopsy will be performed to identify the cause of death of a toddler who was allegedly left in a vehicle during hot weather, an official said on Wednesday.

The two-year-old boy was rushed to Al Nadeem Hospital in Madaba by his parents but was declared dead on arrival, hospital director Wisam Karadsheh said.

“The boy’s body was blue and we tried to resuscitate him but to no avail,” Karadsheh told The Jordan Times.

A second source at the hospital said that the victim’s father informed hospital officials that “his son was left in the vehicle in the heat for over an hour”.

The hospital director said the body was referred to the Madaba National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, adding that “police were also notified”.

Pathologist Saif Hamarneh said an autopsy would be performed on Thursday.

Children can die from dehydration or suffer a brain haemorrhage in such cases, he told The Jordan Times.

Police media officers were not available on Wednesday evening to comment on the incident.

The victim is survived by his parents and three sisters.
