Truck owners protest against new phosphate transportation system

By JT - Nov 20,2017 - Last updated at Nov 20,2017

AMMAN — Owners of trucks transporting phosphate from Hasa mines to Aqaba on Monday organised a strike on Al Ais road in front of the Public Works Department, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Truck owners called on official bodies to cancel the sharing system and maintain the percentage system that stipulates allocating 40 per cent of transporting phosphate to truck drivers of the local community.

They noted that around 280 trucks are owned by residents of Tafileh, Bseira and Al Hasa, who work in transporting phosphate from Al Hasa to Aqaba through waiting for turn, adding that applying the share system will paralyse the transporting sector in the southern region.

They added that, under the share system, owners of trucks will wait for months until they get to transport phosphate. They called on the Land Transport Regulatory Commission to intervene to solve the problem.
